Q&A with Jeaneen Barnhart - Artist of this Year's Woodford Reserve Derby Bottle!
How did you come up with the idea for the bottle art?
My sister, Doreen, and I spent several weeks with a few optional pieces to choose from. We wanted to find the perfect image that represented the signature Barnhart style while fitting in with bottle shape, color and design. My equine works range from charcoals/pastels on paper to oil paintings on canvas, so it was an interesting process to see the application of these images applied to a bourbon-colored glass bottle.
How were you chosen to have your artwork featured on the 2010 Woodford Reserve Derby bottle?
I am absolutely thrilled to be this year's artist for the 2010 Woodford Reserve Derby Bottle! After moving here to Louisville in 1992, it was my mission to expose my artwork on many levels. This included creating three Kentucky Derby Festival Posters, several one-person exhibits, commissions, art reproduction/publishing and charitable art donations. During the last several years I have worked directly with Brown-Forman on many art related projects. My original "Wine Bottle" paintings hang in their art collection. I have also provided art for Sonoma-Cutrer's promotional art reproductions and exhibited my originals at Woodford Reserve's art gallery. I believe the visibility of my work paved the way to be chosen to do the Woodford Reserve Derby Bottle.
What is your favorite way to drink Woodford Reserve?
I just recently poured some over a chocolate chip cookie! It was delicious!
What's your favorite thing about Derby season?
The inspiration I feel when the town goes wild and the horses rush to the finish line!
