We are supporting a research project that aims to uncover an open-sourced rye variety that will grow well locally in Kentucky. Woodford Reserve is committed to purchasing the rye grown by four farmers in the trial for the next five years. The grain will be used in production and distillery trials to run sensory tests on the final distillate. Beginning in the summer of 2023, Woodford Reserve will run small distillation trials on ten varieties of rye to determine their flavor nuances that impact bourbon.
Our vision for protecting and conserving natural resources

on the Woodford Reserve property dedicated to native grass restoration.
97%
of food scraps are composted on the Woodford Reserve property.
As of 2021, we plan to have our agricultural partners practicing 100% sustainable farming by 2030. We have dedicated corn supply partners in Woodford and Shelby Counties, Kentucky. We are sourcing a portion of our rye supply from Kentucky farms through a project with American Farmland Trust, the University of Kentucky School of Agriculture, and the DendriFund.

Sustainable Agriculture
Circularity
Across our operations, from our Visitor Center to our production areas, we recycle our waste materials including cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, and wood. Currently, 99% of our waste material is recycled. We also collect and recycle our electronic waste.

Conservation
Woodford Reserve Distillery has dedicated more than ten acres of land on the Woodford Reserve property to native grass restoration which is beneficial to the environment in providing a crucial habitat to many species of wildlife and birds, as well as nutrients for bees and butterflies.
